The DRV 8824 provides an integrated motor drive solution for printers, scanners and other automation equipment applications. The unit has two H-bridge drivers and a microstepping diverter to drive bipolar stepper motors. The output driver block consists of N-channel power MOSFETs configured as a full H-bridge to drive the motor windings. The DRV 8824 is capable of driving up to 1.6A from each output (with proper heat sink at 24 V and 25°C).

A simple STEP/DIR interface can be easily interfaced with the controller circuit. The mode pin allows configuration of the motor in full steps up to 1/32 step mode. The decay mode is configurable, so slow decay, fast decay, or mixed decay can be used. A low power sleep mode is provided, shutting down internal circuitry for very low quiescent current draw. This sleep mode can be set using the dedicated nSLEEP pin.

Internal shutdown functions provide overcurrent, short circuit, undervoltage lockout, and overtemperature. Fault conditions are indicated on the nFAULT pin.
