HA4314B 400MHz, 4x1 Video Crosspoint Switch
The HA4314B is a very wide bandwidth 4x1 crosspoint switch ideal for professional video switching, HDTV, computer monitor routing and other high performance applications. The circuit has very low power consumption (105mW enabled, 4mW disabled), excellent differential gain and phase, and very high off isolation. When disabled, the output switches to a high impedance state, making the HA4314B an ideal device for routing matrices. The HA4314B requires no external current source and features fast switching and symmetrical slew rates. For 4x1 crosspoints (channel indicators) with count outputs or with sync control signals, please refer to the HA4404B and HA4344B datasheets. For audio channels requiring greater signal swing, please refer to the CD22M3494 (16x8) datasheet.

notes:
1. θJA is measured in free air with components mounted on an inefficient thermal conductivity test board. See Technical Bulletin TB379 for details.
2. If the input signal is applied before the power supply, the input current must be limited to these maximum values.

PC board layout
The frequency response of this circuit depends heavily on the considerations when designing the PC board. Using low inductive components like chip resistors and chip capacitors is highly recommended, while a solid ground is a must! Care should be taken to disconnect the power supply. Large value (10µF) tantalum parallel with small value tantalum (0.1µF) chip capacitors work well in most cases. Keep the input and output traces as short as possible, as trace inductors and capacitors can easily become performance limiting items.
application information
General
The HA4314B is a 4x1 crosspoint switch ideal for the matrix element of high performance switches and routers. The low input capacitance and high input resistance of this cross point provide excellent video termination when used with an external 75Ω resistor. Nonetheless, if several HA4314B inputs are connected together, a buffer should be considered when using one input (see Figure 1). This crossover contains no feedback or gain setting resistors, so the output is a true high impedance load when the IC is disabled (CS=1). Ground Connections All ground pins are connected to a common point on the die, so any of them is sufficient as a functional GND connection. For best isolation and crosstalk rejection, however, all ground pins must be connected to a ground plane. Frequency Response Most applications using the HA4314B require a series output resistor, RS, to adjust the response capacitance, CL, drive for a specific load. Bandwidth and slew rate decrease as CL increases (as shown in "Electrical Specifications" on page 4), carefully consider component placement to minimize trace length. In large matrices with large CL configurations, better frequency response is achieved through the multiplexed output case (see Figure 2), or distributed if CL is due to bus and post-stage input capacitance. Control Signal This is a TTL/CMOS compatible active low chip select input. When driven high, CS forces the output to a true high impedance state and reduces power dissipation by a factor of 25. The CS input does not have an on-chip pull-down resistor, so if the enable function is not used. A0, A1 - These are binary coded, TTL/CMOS compatible address inputs that select which of the four inputs is connected to the crosspoint output.
Switch/Router Applications
Diagram illustrating a broadband, low power, 4x4 switch/router, HA4314B utilizing a switch matrix. A 4x4 switcher/router allows any of the four outputs to be driven by any of the four outputs (for example, each of the four inputs can be connected to a different output, or one input can be connected to multiple outputs ). This application uses HA4600 (video buffer, output disabled) for input buffer, HA4314B as switch matrix and HFA1112 (programmable gain buffer) as gain for both output drivers. Figure 2 details a 16x1 switcher (essentially a 16:1 mux), a configuration node using the HA4201 (1x1 crosspoint) and a cascaded HA4314B to minimize capacitive loading on each output, thereby increasing system bandwidth. Power-Up Precautions Analog or digital inputs should not use any signal prior to power-up. Latch-up can occur if the input is driven at power up. To prevent latch-up, the input current during power-up must not exceed the values listed in "Absolute Maximum Ratings" on page 3. Intersil's Crosspoint Family Intersil offers a variety of 4x1 and 1x1 crosspoint switches. In addition to the HA4314B, the 4x1 series also includes the HA4404 and HA4344. The HA4404 is a 16 Ld device that displays the count output of the selected channel. HA4344 is with synchronous control lines (A0, A1, CS). In the case of synchronization the next channel switch can be loaded into the crosspoint without affecting the current state. The control state stored on subsequent clocks affects the desired channel switching. The 1x1 family consists of HA4201 and HA4600. They are basically similar units, but the HA4201 includes a count output (enable indicator). 1x1 is used as a high performance video input buffer or switch matrix requiring high isolation
