The FMS6418A provides comprehensive filtering for set-top boxes or DVD applications. This part consists of three 6-order filters with selectable 30MHz or 8.0MHz frequencies. A 2-to-1 multiplexer is provided on each filter channel. This triple filter works with YUV or RGB signals. All channels accept DC coupled ground referenced 1V signals. The filter supplies the 2Vpp signal to the AC-coupled termination load. The low pass filter is powered by 3.3V and the output is 5.0V. The FMS6418A is available in 16-pin SOIC and 14-pin TSSOP packages.

General

The FMS6418A provides comprehensive filtering for set-top boxes or DVD applications. This part consists of three 6-order filters with selectable frequencies from 30MHz to 8.0MHz. A 2-to-1 multiplexer is provided on each filter. Filters are used for YUV or RGB signals. All channels accept DC coupled ground referenced 1V signals. This filter provides a 2Vpp signal to an AC coupled termination load. All channels provide 6dB gain, accept 1V ground-referenced inputs, and drive AC-coupled loads. The RGB low pass filter is powered by 3.3V and the output buffer is powered by 5.0V. The FMS6418A is from Fairchild Semiconductor addressing the need for extended filter set-top boxes and DVD players. Products offer optional filtering with cutoff frequency; or 30MHz or 8.0MHz on RGB/YUV channels. Therefore, the FMS6418A meets the requirements of a single set-top box and is compatible with multiple resolution standards. A multiplexer on the RGB channels provides further flexibility. For DVD, STB and TV applications, the product is three output channels (RGB/YUV).

DC Level The DC level of the input signal must be between 0.0V and 1.3V at any given time. Use optimal headroom to avoid clipping the output. Single Supply +5V Operation To reduce power consumption, the FMS6418 is designed to turn off 5V and 3.3V. VCCA can work from 5V instead of 3.3V and still meet specs, except for power consumption. Typical current consumption increases by 5mA when the 3.3V supply is increased to 5V. The net effect is that the part dissipates at an additional 22% of the power. Drive digital pins or 5V logic with 3.3V. Either is allowed as long as Vih and Vil are glued.
