VNI4140K Four-way high-end intelligent power solid state relay
Block Diagram Description
The VNI4140K is a monolithic device fabricated using STMicroelectronics ViPower technology to drive four separate resistive or inductive loads with one side grounded. Active current limit avoids system power loss during short-circuit loads. A built-in thermal shutdown protects the chip from overheating and short circuits. In an overload situation, the channel is automatically closed and reopened to maintain the temperature of the connection between T and T. If this condition brings the case temperature to T, the overload channel closes and will only restart when the case temperature drops to T. If more than one channel is overloaded, the overloaded channel restarts. To avoid high peak currents from the power supply, NNEL does not run simultaneously. Non-overloaded channels continue to function normally. An open-drain diagnostic output indicates an overtemperature condition.

Reverse Polarity Protection 9 Reverse Polarity Protection proposes a scheme to protect integrated circuits from reverse polarity.
This schematic works for any type of load connected to the IC's output.
The rgnd resistance value can be selected according to the following conditions: r≤ 600 mV/(i is at the maximum on state). 2. rgnd ≥ (-vcc)/(-ignd) GNDS where -ignd is the DC reverse ground pin current, which can be found in the Absolute Maximum Ratings section of the device datasheet.
Under reverse polarity conditions, the power dissipation associated with R is: GNGPd=(-VCC)2/rgnd This resistor can be shared by several different ICs. In this case, the value of i in equation (1) is the sum of the maximum on-state currents of the different devices.
