Function description The opll is a fm sound generator lsi with a built-in 9-bit da converter. It has two sound generation modes: 9 melodic sounds or 6 melodic sounds plus 5 rhythm sounds, both allowing different tones to be generated simultaneously. Both modes can be selected from the software. A feature of this LSI is its built-in instrument ROM. As shown in the table below, this ROM contains 15 melodic tones and 5 rhythmic tones, as well as all tones for "Captain" and Teletext for easy application to "Captain" adapters and character multichannel TVs. Additionally, a built-in pitch register capability allows for the creation of sound effects and original sounds for a pitch. By controlling the parameters of this sensor (e, wi, i and w2 in the following equation), various harmonics can be generated based on the sample wave wi.
Unlike traditional fm sound generators, opll has a bulti-in-instruments rom that allows massively simplified sound generation commands from the processor. First, the required instrument code is stored in the instrument select register. Then, after entering data at regular intervals and timings, the unit starts producing sounds. The processor autoplay can easily perform writing data to the music sustain and volume registers suitable for it. As mentioned above, after writing the data to the pitch register, the instrument select register using the original pitch must be cleared. Rhythm sounds are generated by turning on or off the corresponding bits in the rhythm control register. In this case, the specified data must be entered into the key ON/OFF and F number registers 8ch and 9ch.
