YB1300S Switched Capacitor Boost Converter 5V/4.5V

DESCRIPTION The YB1300S is a switched capacitor DC/DC boost converter that produces a regulated 5 volt output. The input voltage range is 2.7V to 5.0V, which makes the YB1300 ideal for single-cell Li-Ion battery power supplies. The YB1300 is suitable for boost applications that do not require an inductor. The 1MHz switching frequency allows the use of small SMD capacitors. YB1300S provides thermal protection, short circuit current limit protection. In order to effectively prevent the generation of inrush current, automatic soft start is provided. Shutdown current is less than 0.1μA. YB1300 is packaged in 6-pin SOT23 .

Function block function description YB1300S regulated oil charge pump provides a regulated 5V output voltage for input voltage between 2.7V and 5V. This is achieved through a boost or boost mode of operation. Generates a conversion clock with a 50% duty cycle. During the first half cycle, the pump capacitor CPUMP charges VIN. During the second half of the cycle, the voltage on CPUMP is applied to VIN and then transferred to VOUT. When necessary, the output voltage is regulated by skipping clock cycles. The YB1300's soft-start and short-circuit protection circuits include limiting inrush current when the soft-start circuit is turned on. At startup, the output capacitor is charged through a charge pump capacitor with a limited current source. When the output voltage approaches its design value, the soft-start is terminated and normal operation begins. For example, if an overload condition occurs and the output is shorted to ground, the output current is limited by the YB1300S switching technology. Thermal protection regulators have thermal shutdown circuitry that protects them from damage caused by high temperature conditions. Thermal protection circuit shuts down

When the junction temperature of the device reaches about 160°C, the device is allowed to cool. When the junction temperature drops to around 140°C, the device automatically restarts. Running the regulator continuously to thermal shutdown reduces reliability. The control pin on the shutdown mode regulator can be used to put the device into an energy saving shutdown mode. In this mode, the output is disconnected from the input.
Considering the large transient current and high switching frequency generated by the YB1300, careful consideration of the PCB layout must be made. To minimize input and output ripple, use shorted direct circuit traces with capacitors as close as possible to the regulator. A ground plane and short connections to all capacitors will improve performance and ensure proper regulation under all conditions.
