EN5394QI: DC-DC Converter Integrated Inductor
The EN5394QI is a complete power system-on-chip (PowerSoC) that integrates power switches, inductors, gate drivers, controllers and loop compensation in a tiny 8mmx11mm package. The 1.85mm low profile and small pinout allow this model to be used in space-constrained applications.
The EN5394QI uses an external resistor divider, and the output voltage can be set to any user-defined value. In addition, the EN5394QI is pin-compatible with the 6A EN5364QI; therefore, if your power requirements are reduced, you can seamlessly migrate to the low-power EN5364QI.
This buck converter power management IC is an excellent choice for low-power applications that often require a small pin layout scheme while also requiring high efficiency, excellent thermal performance, low noise, high reliability, and ease of use .
circuit diagram
Synchronous Buck Converter
The EN5394QI is synchronous, programmable with integrated power MOSFET power switches and integrated inductors. The nominal input voltage range is 2.375-6.6V. The output voltage is programmed through an external resistor divider network. The feedback control loop is a Type III, voltage mode, and the device uses a low noise PWM topology. to a continuous 9A output current can be drawn from this converter. The 4MHz operating frequency allows the use of small size input and output capacitors.
enable action
The enable pin provides a method of starting normal operation or shutting down the device. A logic high will switch the converter to normal operation. When the ENABLE pin is set (high) the device will perform a normal soft start. A logic low will disable the converter. A logic low will power a controlled device in a downward manner with the device subsequently being shut down. The device will remain off for the enabled lockout duration. If the ENABLE signal is reasserted during this period, the device will power up with the normal soft-start at the end of the enable lock time. The enable threshold is a precise analog voltage, not a digital logic threshold. Precision capacitors along with the chosen soft-start threshold help to accurately sequence multiple power supply systems in a system.
frequency synchronization
The switching frequency of the DC/DC converter can be phase-locked to an external clock source to shift the unwanted beat frequency out of the band. To take advantage of this feature, the ternary input M/S pin should be floated or pulled low. The clock of the internally switched DC/DC converter can then be phase locked to the clock signal applied to the S_IN pin. The activity detector recognizes the presence of an external clock signal and automatically phase locks the internal oscillator to this external clock. Phase lock will occur as long as the input clock frequency is within ±10% of the operating frequency. If no clock signal is present, the device reverts to the free-running frequency of the internal oscillator. An external clock input between 3.6 MHz and 4.4 MHz can be swept up to 10 kHz in order to reduce frequency components of repetition rate EMI.
