EL5144 Series 100MHz Single Supply Rail-to-Rail Amplifiers

The EL5144 series amplifiers are voltage feedback, high speed rail-to-rail amplifiers designed to operate on a single +5V supply. They offer unity gain stability with unloaded -3dB bandwidth to 100MHz. The input common-mode voltage range extends from the negative supply line to within 1.5V of the positive rail. Driving 75Ω double terminated coaxial cable, the EL5144 series amplifiers open to within 150mV of either rail. The 200V /µs slew rate and 0.1%/0.1° differential gain/differential phase make these devices ideal for composite and component video applications. With their voltage-feedback architecture, these amplifiers can accept a reactive feedback network so that they will output 90mA and sink 65mA using filtering in analog applications. The EL5146 and EL5246 have a power saving shutdown function. Applying a standard TTL logic low to the CE (Chip Enable) pin reduces the supply current to 2.6µA within 10ns. The turn-on time is 500ns, allowing true break-through conditions for multiplex applications. Allowing the CE pin to float or applying a high logic level will enable the amplifier. For applications where board space is critical, singles are available in 5-pin SOT-23 packages, even in 8- and 10-pin MSOP packages, and 16-pin quads in QSOP packages. All components operate over an industrial temperature range of -40°C +85°C.

Product Description

The EL5144 series are high bandwidth, single supply, low power, rail-to-rail output, voltage feedback operational amplifiers. The series includes single, dual and quad core configurations. The single and dual channels are available with power off pins to reduce power consumption to 2.6µA typical. Closed loop compensation inside all amplifiers +1 or higher feedback gain. Larger gains are acceptable but the bandwidth will be based on the familiar GAIN-decompression bandwidth product. When connected in voltage follower mode and driving a high impedance load, the EL5144 series has a -3dB bandwidth of 100MHz. Driving a 150Ω load, they have a -3dB bandwidth while maintaining a 200V/µs slew rate of 60MHz. The input common-mode voltage range includes ground, while the output swings rail-to-rail.

Power Bypass and Printed Circuit Board Layout

As with any high frequency device, good printed circuit board layout is necessary for optimum performance. Ground level construction is strongly recommended. Wire lengths should be as short as possible. Power supply pins must be well bypassed to reduce the risk of oscillation will be enough. This same capacitor combination should be placed between each power supply pin and ground if separate power supplies are used. In this case, the GND pin becomes the negative rail. For good AC performance, parasitic capacitance should be kept to a minimum. Wirewound resistors should be avoided due to their additional series inductance. Utilizing sockets, especially for SO packages, should be avoided if possible. Sockets add parasitic inductance and capacitance that can lead to compromised performance.

Input, output and supply voltage ranges

The EL5144 series has been designed to operate with a single supply voltage of 5V. Separate power supplies can be used, so as long as their total range is 5V. The amplifier's input common-mode voltage range includes the negative supply (GND terminal) and extends to within 1.5V of the positive supply (VS pin). They are specified within this range. The output swing rail of the EL5144 series amplifier. As the value of the load resistance is lower, the drivability is reduced close to each track. However, even with an effective 150Ω load resistor connected to the voltage between the mid-supply rails, the output swings 150mV of either rail.
