The new product is able to use an external complementary MOSFET buffer, consuming current only when the gate of the buffer MOSFET is charging or discharging, helping to reduce power consumption.

By changing the size of the external complementary MOSFET buffers, the TLP5231 is able to provide the required gate current for various IGBTs and MOSFETs. The configuration of the TLP5231, MOSFET snubber, and IGBT/MOSFET can be used as a platform to meet the power requirements of the system, simplifying the design.

Other features include the use of another external N-channel MOSFET to control the "gate soft-off time" after VCE(sat) overcurrent is detected; in addition to being able to detect VCE(sat) by monitoring the collector voltage, There is also UVLO[3] detection, which outputs any fault signal to the primary side. These new features, which are not available in existing products [2], allow the TLP5231 to help users design gate drive circuits more easily.
