3M®'s Cubitron II is a high-performance abrasive belt containing a ceramic and alumina blend that provides cost-effective performance

3M's Cubitron® ll Belt 784F Image 3M® Cubitron II Belt 784F is designed for medium pressure industrial applications. Featuring 3M's precisely shaped particles, this high performance belt cuts very fast during the grinding process and sharpens itself, it contains a mixture of ceramic and alumina for medium pressure applications that may not take full advantage of the benefits of a pure ceramic belt , and therefore cost-effective.

The coarser grain sizes 36-80 have a YF weight backing, while the finer grain sizes 120-180 have an XF weight backing. Both weights are moderately flexible and adapt well to gentle contours and flat surfaces.

In medium and high pressure applications such as robotic grinding, it is important to choose a high-quality abrasive belt, such as the fast-cutting and durable 784F. Minerals in the belt are constantly broken up and create sharp edges to maintain cutting capability throughout the life of the belt, reducing robotic cell replacement and downtime. This helps maximize cell efficiency, allowing users to produce more parts per belt.

The 784F has a water resistant polyester backing so it can be rolled wet or dry. To protect heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, titanium, nickel alloys and cobalt alloys from cracking and discoloration due to heat-related stress, 3M has introduced grinding aids to reduce grinding temperatures. In addition, the abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin for durability under high temperature and pressure.

3M's precisely shaped grains are a major advancement in abrasive technology. This ceramic mineral is engineered using a proprietary process that enhances the toughness and hardness of the grains. 3M scientists then took it a step further and engineered the mineral to form uniform triangular grains that continuously fracture into extremely sharp tips and edges that run through the substrate, not like traditional abrasives Gouge or scrape in the same way. It produces ultra-fast cutting speeds and reduces heat build-up on the workpiece, thereby reducing heat-related stress cracking and discoloration. Because the precision-shaped particles stay cool and sharp, they last longer than traditional abrasives.
