Image of the PI3USB9201 Dual-Role USB Charge-Type Detector Diodes' PI3USB9201 Dual-Role USB Charge-Type Detector can be programmed to operate in either host mode or client mode via I2C. When operating as a host, the PI3USB9201 provides its status as Standard Downstream Port (SDP), Downstream Port Charge (CDP) or Dedicated Charge Port (DCP) via USB D+/D- pins, compliant with USB Battery Charging Specification 1.2 (BC 1.2). When running as a client, the PI3USB9201 starts BC 1.2 detection to detect the type of host connected.
In both host mode and client mode, detection results are reported to the controller via I 2 C. In USB Type-C connector applications, the PI3USB9201 works with a USB Type-C controller IC to support both BC 1.2 and USB Type-C charging specifications. The PI3USB9201 is housed in a tiny 12-contact QFN 2 mm x 2 mm package and operates over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
