The nRF52840 SoC is the most advanced member of the nRF52 family of SoCs. It addresses the challenges of complex applications that require protocol concurrency and a rich and diverse set of peripherals and capabilities. It provides substantial memory availability for Flash and RAM, a prerequisite for such demanding applications.

The nRF52840 fully supports multi-protocol with full protocol concurrency. It supports Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, 802.15.4, ANT and 2.4ghz proprietary protocol stacks.

The nRF52840 is built around a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4 CPU with a floating point unit running at 64 MHz. It has NFC-A tags for simplified pairing and payment solutions. The ARM TrustZone™ CryptoCell encryption unit is included on the chip and provides a range of encryption options that execute efficiently independently of the CPU. It has many digital peripherals and interfaces, such as high-speed SPI and QSPI for connecting external flash memory and displays; PDM and I2S for digital microphones and audio; and a full-speed USB device for data transfer and power for battery charging.

Extremely low power consumption is achieved using an advanced on-chip adaptive power management system.
