In this context, the phenomenon of the sharp rise in the price of CIS chips has further aroused the discussion and attention of the industry; among them, the products with the largest gap of 5M and below are especially obvious.

At present, products with pixels of 5M and below are widely used in some low- and medium-priced smartphones, and their applications in the non-mobile phone market are also increasing year by year. Therefore, CIS chips including non-mobile phones are also facing shortages at this stage. .

Two price hikes this year

In fact, the phenomenon that CIS chips are out of stock has already appeared. Jiwei.com has learned that since the beginning of this year, as the production capacity of upstream wafers has become increasingly tight, the supply gap of CIS chips has further increased; CIS chips of 5M and below have experienced two large-scale price increases in the market. And the manufacturers of these product price hikes are basically distributed in mainland China.

Among them, Geke Micro's product shipments are the largest, so the company's supply gap this year is also the largest. According to the author's understanding, Gekewei's monthly shipments before being out of stock are around 100KK~110KK. Among them, VGA product shipments accounted for about 20% of the total shipments, 2M shipments accounted for about 45% of the total, 5M shipments accounted for about 25% of the total, and the three types of product shipments accounted for the total. The goods are close to 90%.

The high proportion of shipments of these three types of products undoubtedly makes the shortage of Gekewei more obvious. In order to alleviate this pressure, Gekewei had to raise the price of its products twice in a short period of time, and the overall increase has been close to 40%.

Jiwei.com learned that before the price increase, Gekewei's 5M products were 0.5~0.6 US dollars, and the average price of a 2M unit was about 0.3 US dollars; according to the range of its two price adjustments, the company's 5M products were The price has soared to around $0.7, while 2M's products are around $0.43.

In addition, with the increasing imbalance between supply and demand in the market, and the continuous increase in the prices of friends, many CIS chip manufacturers such as Spicco and BYD have also adjusted their prices this year.

Unfortunately, even though product prices have risen sharply, the pressure on CIS chip manufacturers has not eased. Industry insiders told the author: "Although prices are rising now, the production capacity of upstream materials has not been eased, shipments are still difficult, and customers are still urging delivery every day."

Prices of upstream and downstream manufacturers generally rise

As mentioned above, CIS chips are out of stock due to the wafer capacity problem. Obviously, the shortage of capacity has also caused upstream wafer manufacturers to increase prices. However, this has not improved the current situation of tight production capacity. Because of this, we have also seen that many Fab factories at home and abroad have launched plans to expand production capacity.

At the same time, the price increase also includes the downstream chip packaging and testing of CIS. Even so, the production capacity of several CIS packaging and testing manufacturers in China is almost close to full production. Like upstream manufacturers, there is a shortage of supply, which benefits the three major CIS packaging and testing manufacturers represented by Jingfang Technology, Huatian Technology, and Changdian Technology. In the second half of this year, the performance of the three companies showed a marked improvement.

Among them, Jingfang Technology's main packaging products are image sensing, fingerprint locks and other product fields, and more than 80% of related products are used in the field of electronic products represented by smartphones, and the packaging revenue of image sensing and fingerprint lock products. It accounted for 94.6% of the company's operating income.

Before this year's price hike, the gross profit margin of Jingfang Technology's main business in 2018 dropped from 36.81% in 2017 to 27.85%, mainly due to the decline in product unit prices. Among them, the package unit price of 8-inch mobile phone image sensor chip and fingerprint recognition chip decreased by 26% and 18% respectively compared with the beginning of the year, and the comprehensive average unit price decreased by 11.71%, resulting in a decrease of 62.55 million yuan in current revenue compared with the same period of the previous year.

However, the market trend is changing rapidly. According to industry insiders, the current price growth trend of upstream and downstream manufacturers of CIS chips is also accompanied by the rhythm of CIS chip price increases, and the range is also as high as 20-40%. The substantial increase in the unit price of packaging is also expected to improve the performance of Jingfang Technology by the end of the year.

With the current multi-camera configuration more and more used in smart terminal products, the market demand mainly for mobile phones has further expanded, and the phenomenon of shortage and price increase in the CIS industry chain may continue.
