TDK Corporation's B590 series of ceramic-based EPCOS wafer ultrasonic sensors includes two standard types: B59050Z0206A03 and B59070Z285D12. The B59050Z0206A03 sensor disc has a diameter of 5.0mm and a thickness of 1.02mm. It has a series resonance frequency of 2000 kHz and a thickness oscillation mode (axial), making it suitable for use in liquid media. The B59070Z0285D12 has a diameter of 7.0mm and a thickness of 0.195mm. It offers a radial oscillation mode of 285 kHz and is suitable for operation in air.
These RoHS compliant wafer sensors are suitable for a variety of applications. In automotive electronics, for example, they can be used in parking assist or blind-spot monitoring systems, level detection of fuel or SCR tanks, and interior monitoring of anti-theft systems. In industrial electronics applications, wafer sensors allow flow measurement of fluids or gases and height detection of fluids or bulk materials.
