ASIC-like multi-region clocking is available in the UltraScale architecture, allowing designers to place system-level clocks at any optimal location across the die, reducing system-level clock skew by up to 50 percent. Placing clock-driven nodes in the geometric center of functional blocks and balancing the clock skew of different leaf clock cells can break one of the biggest bottlenecks preventing multi-gigabit system-level performance. The ASIC-like clocking capability of the UltraScale architecture removes all clock placement constraints and enables a large number of independent high-performance low-skew clocking resources in the system design, one of the key requirements for next-generation designs. This is the biggest departure from the clocking scheme used in previous generations of programmable logic devices, and a significant improvement.
