IEC Connector System GP21 and GS21, GS21-111-15-00-0000-00

UL listed IEC TS 62735-1 connector system, GS21 receptacle and GP21 plug rated for 400V DC. The connector system is designed to enable a globally standardized approach to DC power distribution in data centers.

With a complete DC power architecture, you can avoid costly, fault-susceptible, and wasteful AC-to-AC or AC-to-DC conversions. From source to load, DC architectures improve the overall quality of the power provided by their design. Problems with harmonics and harmonic distortion are eliminated. Phase compensation or coupling synchronization to different sources and networks is no longer required, increasing operational reliability and increasing efficiency.

In the digital age, a large number of DC-powered devices are becoming more common. For example, DC-powered consumer electronics have enabled smaller designs with greater functionality, while reducing cost and increasing reliability. Similar needs are becoming prevalent in areas such as large-scale communication infrastructure, electric vehicle charging and lighting, to name a few. Therefore, the emergence of an industrialized need for a worldwide common DC power system approach has driven the establishment of standards.

Safety is key. The IEC TS 62735-1 standard for DC power distribution requires a more complex design than the traditional AC connector system outlined in the DC standard IEC 60320. When designing a DC connector system, the increased likelihood of arcing when disconnecting DC power under load must be taken into account. The next-generation standard IEC TS 62735-2 for developing DC connector systems rated up to 5.2 kW will require additional structural elements called safety interlocks (cold switches). The allowable operating temperature range for the GP21 and GS21 is -5°C to +105°C.

The GP21 reconnectable plug accepts cable cross-sections from 0.75mm2/ 18 AWG to 1.5mm2/ 16 AWG. GS21 sockets are available in 1.5mm or 2.0mm panel mounting options. The terminals are 6.3 mm x 0.8 mm quick connect boards or PCBs. Equipment-side DC components are also under development according to IEC TS 63236 and are expected to be released when the standard is published in 2021.
