According to domestic media reports, BYD will launch a new generation of iron-lithium batteries from May to June next year. The volume specific energy density will be increased by 50%, the lifespan will be 1.2 million kilometers for 8 years, and the cost can be reduced by 30%.
On the evening of August 21, BYD announced its interim results. On the morning of August 22, BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu and senior executives attended the performance exchange meeting and revealed the above news.
BYD said that the new lithium iron phosphate battery launched in May-June next year will increase the volume/energy density by 50%. It has higher safety, longer life (8 years and 1.2 million kilometers) and lower cost (cost can be saved by 30%).
Lithium iron phosphate batteries are considered by many to have basically reached the ceiling of the theoretical value of energy density. In 2018, BYD stated that the energy density of lithium iron phosphate monomer is 165wh/kg, and the package body is 140wh/kg. In the next two years, it is planned to increase the energy density of the monomer to more than 180wh/kg, and the package body to 160wh/kg.
