Oracle reported earnings a day earlier than originally planned, showing total revenue of $9.22 billion in the first quarter, missing expectations of $9.29 billion. Currently, nearly three-quarters of Oracle's revenue comes from cloud computing services and licensing support, and the company is trying to penetrate the competitive cloud computing market.

On the day of the earnings report, Oracle also announced that Hurd would be on leave for health reasons. Hurd joined Oracle in 2010 as president after five years as chief executive at Hewlett-Packard.

Oracle founder and CTO Larry Ellison will share Hurd's responsibilities with another CEO, Safra Catz. Oracle did not specify Hurd's health or how long he would be away, and a company spokesman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Oracle said in a regulatory filing Wednesday that Hurd, who will continue to receive company benefits while on leave, received a total of $108.3 million in compensation in fiscal 2018, most of which came from option awards.

Oracle shares fell about 5% after the close on Wednesday on the two announcements, but the stock has risen about 25% so far this year. (small)
