The company expands its product portfolio with voltage tracker ICs for automotive applications. The R1540 is mainly used as a power supply for sensors and modules outside the vehicle. It provides an additional level of safety to keep mains power and associated critical circuits operational at all times.
New cars are equipped with more and more electronic systems for various purposes. All of these circuits need to be supplied from a primary voltage source to a lower secondary supply. Power management is usually performed by the on-board power supply, but external sensors and modules must be connected throughout the vehicle and exposed to harsh conditions. The main power and ECU processors and other essential circuits must remain operational and able to perform their tasks in the event of a malfunction of the off-board equipment. Therefore, the use of so-called voltage trackers is a popular measure in which the reference voltage is replicated with high tracking accuracy and generally increases the safety level of the electronic system.
The R1540 has a wide input voltage range of 3.5 V to 42 V, so a voltage tracker can be used in many situations. The regulator output voltage may vary due to electromagnetic noise interference (EMI), and advanced technology is built in to prevent such voltage variations. According to rigorous testing conducted by Ricoh Laboratories, the R1540 has been confirmed to have excellent immunity to EMI noise in a wide frequency band (150 kHz to 1 GHz). In addition, it has a high ripple rejection ratio of 80 dB and fast response to input and load transients. Some sensors require a high accuracy of the supply voltage to perform sensitive measurements; _ Therefore, the voltage tracker provides a tracking accuracy of ±15 mV. Overcurrent Protection: Limits output current in overload conditions
Short-Circuit Protection: Embedded foldback short-circuit current-limiting circuit detects a short circuit and reduces the output current to a safe level of 40 mA, after the short circuit is removed, the regulator automatically resumes normal operation
Thermal Protection: Combines and shuts down the output voltage when an excessive temperature of 165°C is detected, and resumes normal operation again after reaching a temperature of 135°C
Protected Pin Layout: A special layout is arranged for the R1540S in the HSOP-8E package to prevent failure when adjacent pins are shorted; _all four terminals are isolated from unconnected adjacent pins
