The BridgeSwitch family of integrated half bridges greatly simplifies the development and production of 2- or 3-phase PM or BLDC motor drives driven by high voltage inverters. These motor drivers utilize two high voltage N-channel power FREDFETs with low side and high side drivers in a single small form factor package. Internal power FREDFETs provide ultra-soft and ultra-fast diodes ideal for hard-switching inverter drives. Both drives are self-powered and require no external auxiliary power. BridgeSwitch provides a unique instantaneous phase current output signal that simplifies the implementation of sensorless control schemes. The compact low profile surface mount package provides longer creepage distance and allows the two power FREDFETs to dissipate heat through the printed circuit board.

BridgeSwitch provides internal fault protection and external system level monitoring. Internal fault protection includes cycle-by-cycle current limiting with FREDFET and two-stage thermal overload protection. External system-level monitoring includes DC bus sensing, with four undervoltage levels and one overvoltage level, and driving external sensors such as NTCs. The bidirectional bus 1-wire status interface reports observed status changes.
