The DRV8876 flexible motor driver is designed for a variety of end applications. These devices integrate an N-channel H-bridge, charge pump regulator, current sense and regulation, current proportional output, and protection circuitry. The charge pump improves efficiency by allowing high-side and low-side N-channel MOSFETs and 100% duty cycle support. These devices use pin-to-pin, scalable RDS(ON) options to support different loads with minimal design changes.

Integrated current sensing allows the driver to regulate motor current during startup and high load events. The current limit can be set via an adjustable external voltage reference. The DRV8876 device provides an output current proportional to the motor load current. This can be used to detect motor stall or changes in load conditions. Integrated current sensing uses an internal current mirror architecture that eliminates the need for high-power shunt resistors, saving board area and reducing system cost.

A low-power sleep mode achieves ultra-low quiescent current consumption by shutting down most of the internal circuitry. Internal protection features are provided for power supply undervoltage lockout (UVLO), charge pump undervoltage (CPUV), output overcurrent (OCP), and device overtemperature (TSD). Fault conditions are indicated by the nFAULT pin.
