TI's MSP family of ultra-low-power microcontrollers has a wide variety, with each member device featuring a different set of peripherals to meet a variety of applications. This architecture works with several low-power modes and is optimal for extending battery life in portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit reduced instruction set (RISC) CPU using 16-bit registers and constant generators for maximum coding efficiency. This Digitally Controlled Oscillator (DCO) enables the device to wake up from low-power mode to active mode in less than 5µs.

The MSP430F5510, MSP430F5509, and MSP430F5508 devices are microcontroller configurations with integrated USB and PHY supporting USB 2.0, 4 16-bit timers, 1 high performance 10-bit ADC, 2 USCI(1), 1 hardware multiplier, DMA, RTC module with alarm function and 31 or 47 I/O pins.

MSP430F5507, MSP430F5506, MSP430F5505 and MSP430F5504 devices are microcontrollers with integrated USB and PHY supporting USB 2.0, four 16-bit timers, a high performance 10-bit ADC, a USCI, a hardware multiplier, DMA, with alarms functional RTC module and 31 I/O pins.

The MSP430F5503, MSP430F5502, MSP430F5501, and MSP430F5500 devices have nearly the same peripherals as the MSP430F5507, MSP430F5506, MSP430F5505, and MSP430F5504 devices, except that the 10-bit ADC is replaced by a comparator.

Typical applications include analog and digital sensor systems and data loggers that require connectivity to a variety of USB hosts.
