Xilinx Corporation (Xilinx) today announced the launch of the Spartan®-3A series of I/O-optimized field programmable gate array (FPGA) platforms. This platform is an extension of the next-generation Spartan-3 family of low-cost, large-scale applications. The Spartan-3A platform provides a lower cost solution for applications that focus more on I/O count and functionality than logic density. Spartan-3A FPGA supports the industry's widest range of I/O standards (26 types), with unique power management, configuration capabilities, and anti-cloning security advantages, enabling new large-scale applications in consumer and industrial fields, Such as display interface, video/tuner board interface and video switching, providing flexible and lower cost solutions.

Based on 90nm technology, the new Spartan-3A platform includes five devices offering up to 1.4 million system gates and 502 I/Os. The new family of products offers the industry's lowest cost per I/O, along with significant advancements in power management, device configuration and design security. The Spartan-3A platform has a number of extraordinary innovative features and technologies, including:

· Supports the widest range of I/O standards: The first TMDS-compatible FPGA to provide DVI and HDMI support for consumer video applications. It is also the only FPGA compatible with 26 popular single-ended and differential signaling standards. Source-synchronous interface technology optimizes cost while guaranteeing better design margins. Pre-engineered solutions for standards such as PCI, PCI Express, USB, Firewire, CAN, and SPI, while supporting all popular low-cost DDR and DDR2 memory interfaces (up to 333 Mbps).

· The only dual power management mode solution: static power consumption can be reduced by more than 40% in standby mode (Suspend mode), fast wake-up does not exceed 100us, and system synchronization between clock domains. In Hibernate mode, the static power consumption is reduced by up to 99%, and the fast wake-up is less than 100ms.

Comprehensive configuration capabilities: Enhanced multi-boot capability with integrated watchdog monitoring ensures "best" configuration.

· Strong anti-cloning (Anti-Cloning) security features: The Spartan-3A device is the industry's first FPGA to provide a unique DeviceDNA serial code. This permanent ID code protects both hardware and software IP, giving designers the flexibility to implement authentication, prevent cloning and control IP activation status through custom algorithms.

Leveraging the ISE™ design tool suite, the next-generation Spartan-3 family of dedicated IP libraries, and the new Spartan-3A Starter Kit, customers can begin system design with Spartan-3A FPGAs today. Engineering samples of the XC3S700A and XC3S1400A devices are currently available from Xilinx, and engineering samples of the XC3S50A, XC3S200A and XC3S400A devices are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2007.
