The outstanding sales performance of Xilinx's latest Spartan-3? series indicates that Xilinx will continue to maintain its leadership in high-volume applications in the future. Spartan-3 is the world's first FPGA series produced using 90nm process technology. Since its introduction in 2003, the Spartan-3 family of devices has been in full volume production with more than 500,000 devices available to customers.

The success of Xilinx's Spartan family can be attributed to Xilinx's low-cost leadership in continuing to pioneer the use of advanced manufacturing and process technologies. The Spartan-3 family is the latest in Xilinx's effort to bring programmable logic to cost-sensitive markets. As the world's first FPGA to be produced using advanced 90nm process technology, the Spartan-3 family also benefits from the use of particularly cost-effective 300mm wafers. Compared with the previous 130nm/200mm wafer production process, the die product per wafer is almost five times that of the former. Architectural innovations, such as staggered I/O pin technology, also allow this family of devices to provide the industry's highest ratio of I/O to logic gate resources. Platform capabilities for low-cost, high-volume applications

Consumer electronics applications in graphics, networking, and telecommunications require platform-level features such as embedded processors, hard-wired DSP functions, and support for multiple connectivity standards. Spartan-3 FPGAs provide higher density and performance through a much higher level of integration than any other comparable device, thereby reducing the overall cost of the system. Spartan-3 integrates an industry-leading combination of block RAM and distributed RAM, up to 784 I/Os, a MicroBlaze® 32-bit RISC soft processor, and 18 x 18 multiplier support with dedicated hardware and performance up to 330 billion MACs/s XtremeDSP? function, in addition, Spartan-3 device also supports 24 major I/O standards, including PCI, HyperTransport, LVDS and RSDS.
