Xilinx, Inc. today announced a $330,000 donation of programmable logic solutions to Fudan University's Institute of Microelectronics. A complete suite of Xilinx programmable logic solutions, including design software, chips and reference boards, will be used in teaching and training courses for advanced digital electronic design.
The hardware and software donated by the Xilinx University Program (XUP) will be used to equip a Fudan-Xilinx lab with more than 50 workstations. The XUP equipment includes multiple logic and embedded design software (ISE Foundation software, Embedded Development Kit), digital signal processing (DSP) software (System Generator for DSP) and online circuit logic analysis tools (ChipScope Pro logic analyzer) ). Xilinx also donated multimedia development and demonstration boards equipped with Spartan-II Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices and CoolRunner-II Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs).
"We are very pleased to further expand Xilinx's long-term relationship with such a prestigious institution of higher learning as Fudan University," said Vincent Tong, vice president of product technology at Xilinx. We hope to make an important contribution to the future development of the field of electronic design in China's fast-growing high-tech industry by providing teachers and students with hands-on experience in leading programmable logic devices and tools. As one of the best microelectronics engineering institutes in China, our faculty understand the importance of FPGA as a key future technology and make it one of the focuses of teaching students. The establishment of the Fudan-Xilinx lab, coupled with the corresponding technical support and professional training for instructors, will greatly enhance our FPGA curriculum.
Just this month, Xilinx held a related Teachers Workshop at Fudan University for more than 50 participants from 19 Chinese institutions. As part of the XUP program, Xilinx has provided a variety of training courses for teachers in colleges and universities around the world, including FPGA digital design (Digital Design with FPGAs) using FPGA to implement DSP functions (DSP in FPGAs) and embedded systems (Embedded system). Systems).
Hong Zhiliang, professor of Fudan Microelectronics Research Institute and director of Fudan-Xilinx Laboratory, said: "The cooperation with Xilinx has brought new concepts to Fudan's electronic engineering teaching and experiments. The flexibility and programmability of Xilinx technology makes it ideal for developing and verifying integrated circuits in FPGAs. We are currently preparing a lecture material on FPGAs and DSPs and plan to do some interesting experiments with Xilinx reference boards and development tools.
Patrick Lysaght, senior director of global XUP at Xilinx, added that our partnership with Fudan University is an important example of Xilinx's collaboration with institutions in the Asia Pacific region. Over the past year, XUP has donated advanced CAD tools and FPGA prototype systems to more than a dozen universities and colleges in Asia to support their research and educational programs.
