Xilinx Incorporated (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced customer shipments of the first VirtexTM-4 FX60 90nm FPGAs with integrated 622Mbps – 10.3125Gbps serial transceivers, which are faster than other competing high-speed serial I/O solutions in the industry The solution provides better design margin and flexibility. Xilinx designed the Virtex-4 RocketIO transceiver to provide customers with full high-end performance and maximum design margin. For designs running at speeds below 10.3125Gbps, it guarantees designers higher bandwidth when needed. This means customers will receive lower device cost and risk, allowing engineers to ensure the future suitability of their products. With these advanced features, Virtex-4 FX FPGAs are ideal for a wide range of high-speed serial applications such as servers, storage subsystems, communication line cards and backplanes.

"Virtex-4 provides system developers with a single-chip platform that can integrate control processing (PowerPC), complex data processing (with customizable DSP or other processing engines), and high-speed I/O," said Steve, President and Principal Analyst, Electronic Trend Publication Berry said. "As the only platform with I/O transceivers with speeds from 622 Mbps to over 10 Gbps, the Virtex-4 easily supports all current interconnect standards, as well as those that will emerge for many years to come."

Xilinx Virtex-4 FX60 devices support all major serial standards, including PCI Express, Serial RapidIO, Ethernet, and Fibre Channel, enabling the same design to be used in multiple applications, reducing overall solution cost. The Virtex-4 FX RocketIO transceiver offers advanced balance features such as 3-tap transmit pre-emphasis, linear receive balance, 6-tap decision feedback balance (DFE), and integrated AC coupling capacitors for performance at all speeds in the most demanding Enhanced signal integrity in the channel makes first-time design easier.
