Xilinx Corporation announced that it has acquired AccelChip Corporation, a leading provider of MATLAB synthesis software tools for building digital signal processing (DSP) systems. The AccelChip DSP synthesis tool and DSP algorithm intellectual property (IP) library will be part of the Xilinx XtremeDSP solution, which includes the System Generator for DSP design tool, rich DSP libraries and reference designs. This unique combination of DSP technologies enables thousands of DSP algorithm and system designers using MATLAB and Simulink (The MathWorks, Inc.) to leverage Xilinx's reconfigurable DSPs to create high-performance systems.

Consistent with Xilinx's October 2005 DSP strategy and product roadmap, tools such as those offered by Xilinx and AccelChip will accelerate the adoption of digital communications, multimedia, video and imaging (MVI), and defense Adoption of solutions optimized for system domain applications. The parties have a large number of mutual customers and collaborations in these market segments, which are key elements for the $2 billion high-performance DSP market.

The financials of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the acquisition was less than 1% of Xilinx's total assets at the end of Xilinx's fiscal third quarter ended December 31, 2005. The company expects to register the acquisition for the fiscal quarter ending in March 2006. Most of the employees at AccelChip's headquarters in Milpitas, California, and two design centers in North America will be employees of the Xilinx DSP division.
