The TPS54320 is a full-featured 17V, 3A synchronous buck converter that is ideal for small designs due to its high efficiency and integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs. The device reduces component count through current-mode control and further saves space by choosing a high switching frequency to reduce inductor package size.

The output voltage start-up ramp is controlled by the SS/TR pin, allowing independent supply operation, or operation in tracking state. In addition, proper configuration of the enable and open-drain power good pins enables power sequencing.

Cycle-by-cycle current limit on the high-side FET protects the device during overload conditions and is enhanced by low-side source current limit to prevent current runaway. Hiccup mode protection is triggered when the overcurrent duration exceeds the preset time. The thermal shutdown feature disables the part when the die temperature exceeds the thermal shutdown temperature. The TPS54320 is available in a 14-pin 3.5mm × 3.5mm VQFN thermally enhanced package.
