The TLV320AIC23B is a high performance stereo audio codec with highly integrated analog functions. The analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital-to-analog converter (DACS) in the TLV320AIC23B use multi-bit Sigma-Delta technology and an integrated oversampling digital interpolation filter. Data transfer word lengths of 16, 20, 24 and 32 bits are supported, and sampling rates from 8 kHz to 96 kHz are supported. The adcΣ modulator adopts a third-order multi-bit structure, with an audio sampling rate of up to 96 khz and a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 90 dba, enabling high-fidelity audio recording in a compact, energy-efficient design. DAC Sigma Delta
The modulator has a second-order multi-bit structure with a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 100 dBA, and audio sampling rates up to 96 kHz, enabling high-quality digital audio playback, while consuming less than 23 mW during playback alone. The TLV320AIC23B is an ideal analog input/output (I/O) choice for portable digital audio player and recorder applications such as MP3 digital audio players.
Integrated analog features include stereo line input with analog bypass, stereo headphone amplifier with analog volume control and mute, and a complete electret-mic-capsule biasing and buffering solution. The headphone amplifier is capable of delivering 30 megawatts per channel to 32. Analog bypass allows the use of stereo line inputs and headphone amps with analog volume controls, while bypassing the codec entirely, allowing for more flexibility in designs such as an integrated FM tuner. The microphone bias output provides a low noise current source for electret bias. The AIC23B has an integrated adjustable microphone amplifier (gain can be from 1 to 5) and programmable gain microphone amplifier (0 dB or 20 dB). If a side splitter is required, the microphone signal can be mixed with the output signal.
The TLV320AIC23B supports industry-standard oversampling rates of 256 fs and 384 fs, and offers unique oversampling rates of 250 fs and 272 fs, optimizing the use of TI C54x digital signal processors (DSPs) and Universal Serial Bus (USB) data Interface considerations in the design of the interface. A single 12 MHz crystal can clock the DSP, USB, and codec. The TLV320AIC23B has an internal oscillator, and when connected to a 12 MHz external crystal, it uses an internal clock buffer and selectable dividers to clock the DSP and other peripherals Provides the system clock. The audio sampling rate is 48 kHz and the compact disc (CD) standard 44.1 kHz directly supports oversampling rates of 250 fs and 272 fs from the 12 MHz master clock.
Low power consumption and flexible power management allow selective shutdown of codec functions, thereby extending battery life in portable applications. This design solution, coupled with the industry's smallest package, TI's proprietary Tiny Star Primary™ using only 25 mm2 of board area, enables robust portable stereo designs to be easily implemented in a cost-effective, space-saving total analog I/O solution: TLV320AIC23B.
