Texas Instruments (TI) today announced that Xilinx has adopted TI's power management technology to simplify power design in its latest Virtex-6 ML605 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) evaluation kit. TI Fusion Digital Power controllers provide FPGA users with advanced power management capabilities and a high degree of design flexibility to monitor power system operation in real time.

TI's UCD9240 integrated power system controller, coupled with complementary power stage ICs and plug-in modules, intelligently manages today's high-density, high-performance power systems, such as those in telecom and datacom infrastructure applications. The controller supports up to 4 independent digital control loops and up to 8 phases. Only two UCD9240 devices are required to manage power for the Virtex-6 FPGA ML605 evaluation kit. In addition, the kit includes the industry's lowest power zero-drift instrumentation amplifier, the INA333. Xilinx's upcoming Spartan-6 FPGA SP605 kit will also include TI digital power products.

Easy-to-use Fusion Digital Power design tool

Using TI's digital power supply design tool with an easy-to-use graphical user interface, the evaluation kit helps designers configure important design parameters, optimize control loop designs, and meet specific supply voltage sequencing criteria without any programming. The tool not only uses real-time monitoring and control loop modeling, but also features impedance measurements to support Virtex-6 FPGA design requirements.
