The signal chain of the AD9864 includes a low noise amplifier (LNA), mixers, a bandpass sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and a decision filter with programmable decimation coefficients. An automatic MATIC gain control (AGC) circuit gives the AD9864 12dB continuous gain adjustment. Auxiliary modules include clock and LO frequency synthesizers. The high dynamic range of the AD9864 and inherent antialias- ing provided by a bandpass sigma-delta converter allows the device to deal with blocking signals up to 95 dB smaller than the required strong signals. This property is typically reduced by reduc- ing the cost of radio- ing IF filtering requirements. Additionally, it enables multimode radios to vary the channel bandwidth, thereby allowing the IF filter to be specified for the maximum channel bandwidth. The SPI™ port programs many parameters of the AD9864 to enable the device to be optimized for any given application. Programmable parameters include synthesizer divider ratio, AGC attenuation and rise/fall times, received signal strength level, decimation factor, output data format, 16dB attenuator, and selected bias current. The AD9864 is available in a 48-lead LFCSP package and operates from a single 2.7 V to 3.6 V supply. The total power consumption is typically 56 mW and power-down mode is provided through the serial interface.
