TP4054 Linear Li-Ion Battery Charger Description

The TP4054 is a complete single-cell Li-Ion battery using a constant current/constant voltage linear charger. Its SOT package and low external component count make the TP4054 ideal for portable applications. TP4054 can work with USB power and adapter power.

External sense resistors and blocking diodes are not required due to the use of an internal PMOSFET architecture, coupled with a reverse charge protection circuit. Thermal feedback adjusts the charge current to limit the die temperature during high power operation or high ambient temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, while the charge current can be set externally with a resistor. The TP4054 will automatically terminate the charge cycle when the charge current drops to 1/10 of the set value after reaching the final float voltage.

When the input voltage (AC adapter or USB power) is removed, the TP4054 automatically enters a low current state, reducing battery leakage current to less than 2uA. The TP4054 can also be put into shutdown mode to reduce the supply current to 45uA. Additional features of the TP4054 include a charge current monitor, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge and a status pin to indicate end of charge and input voltage engagement.
