The MC1403 provides a reference current to the Motorola microcontroller's D/A converter, making it an ideal reference for many monolithic D/A converters that require a stable current reference nominally 2.0 mA. This can be easily obtained by adding a series resistor, R1, to the MC1403. A variable resistor R2, which provides sufficient means to scale the D/A converter.
The improved temperature performance of resistor R3 matches the D/A reference to the two input impedance amplifiers. Before any noise is present on the capacitive decoupling reference line. This is essential if the D/A converter is located any appreciable distance from the reference. A single MC1403 reference can provide the required current input for up to five on-chip D/A converters.
