ISL6596-Synchronous Rectification MOSFET Driver...
Synchronous Rectification MOSFET Driver The ISL6596 is a high frequency MOSFET driver optimized for synchronously driving two N-channel power MOSFETs in a buck converter. Combined with Intersil's multi-phase step-down PWM controller, this driver forms a complete single-stage core voltage, high-efficiency regulator solution for advanced microprocessor performance at high switching frequencies. The IC is driven by a single low bias voltage (5V) to minimize switching losses for high MOSFET gate capacitance and high switching frequency applications. Each driver is capable of driving less than 10ns rise/fall times of third normal form loads. The upper gate driver bootstrap is achieved by implementing an internal low forward voltage drop diode, reducing implementation cost, complexity, and allowing the use of higher performance, cost-effective N-channel MOSFETs. Adaptive shoot-through protection is integrated to prevent both MOSFETs from running simultaneously. The 4A's ISL6596 features a typical low current sinking gate driver, improved low MOSFET gate hold down node capability at the rising edge of the first stage, preventing loss of power from self-conducting MOSFET turn-on due to low in High dV/dt switch node. The ISL6596 also features an input that recognizes a highimpedance state and operates with Intersil's multiphase 3.3V or 5V PWM controller to prevent negative transients in controlling the output voltage when operation is suspended. This feature eliminates the need for Schottky diodes, which can be used in power systems to protect the load output voltage from negative damage.
