ISL6205 - High Voltage Synchronous Rectification Buck MOSFET Driver
High Voltage Synchronous Rectification Buck MOSFET Driver The ISL6205 is a high voltage, high frequency, dual MOSFET driver specifically designed to drive two N-channel power MOSFET topologies for synchronous rectification buck converters, mobile computing application. This driver combined with Intersil's ISL6223 or other multiphase buck PWM controller forms a complete single-stage core voltage regulator solution for advanced mobile microprocessors. The ISL6205 allows the user to select a buck converter with gate voltage ranging from 5V to 12V for low rectification of synchronous MOSFETs. Using a gate voltage of 12V reduces the RDS(ON) and conduction losses in the MOSFET. This gate needs to run at 5V. The ISL6205 has a tri-state PWM input that works in conjunction with any of Intersil's multi-phase PWM controllers and will prevent the output from being turned off momentarily when the output voltage is negative. This feature eliminates Schottky diodes that normally occur in a microprocessor power system to protect any microprocessor from reverse output voltage damage. The output driver of the ISL6205 is capable of high-efficiency power MOSFET switching frequencies up to 2MHz. Each driver is capable of driving a transition with a 3000pF load of 30ns and a propagation delay time of 50ns. This product implements boot-in-gate, reducing implementation complexity and allowing the use of higher performance, cost-effective, N-channel MOSFETs. Adaptive shoot-through protection is integrated to prevent both MOSFETs from running simultaneously.
