LT1158 - Half-Bridge N-Channel Power MOSFET Driver
Description Author: LT1158 A single input pin controls a totem pole of two power MOSFETs in an N-channel configuration synchronously. Unique adaptive protection against shoot-through current eliminates all MOSFETs required in two mating. This greatly simplifies designing high-efficiency motor control and switching regulator systems. The shorted top power MOSFET current is regulated continuously in the LT1158 current limit loop. Higher start-up current is allowed as long as the MOSFET VDS does not exceed 1.2 volts. By returning the fault output to the enable input, the LT1158 will automatically shut down in the event of a fault and then retry when an internal pull-up is currently enabled to charge the capacitor. The on-chip charge pump switch turns on the top N-channel MOSFET continuously when needed. Special circuitry ensures that the top-side gate driver is safe to maintain transitions between PWM and DC operation. The gate-to-source voltage is internally limited to a higher supply voltage for 14.5V operation.
