LM9061 - Power MOSFET driver, lossless protection

General Description The LM9061 is a charge pump device that provides gate drive to an external power MOSFET in any size configuration as a high-side driver or switch. CMOS logic compatible ON/OFF input controls the output gate drive voltage. In the ON state, the charge pump voltage, which is much higher than the available VCC supply, is applied directly to the gate of the MOSFET. A built-in 15V Zener clamps the maximum gate-source voltage of the MOSFET. When commanded to close the gate of a 110mA sink current discharge capacitor the MOSFET is a step-off characteristic to minimize the duration of inductive loads and to further protect the power MOSFET from transient voltages. Lossless protection of power MOSFETs is an important feature of the LM9061. Voltage drop (VDS) across the power supply device is continuously monitored and compared to an externally programmable threshold voltage. Small current is sensed with the load, which results in loss of series resistance to the available energy source and requires no protection circuitry. If the VDS voltage, due to excessive load current, exceeds the threshold voltage, the output is locked off in a more gradual manner (through the 10 mA output current sink) after a programmable delay interval. Designed for automotive applications, the LM9061 has a wide operating temperature range of b40§C to a125§C, remains operational with VCC up to 26V, and can withstand 60V supply transients. Yes LM9061 is available in 8-pin small outline package and 8-pin dual in-line package.
