LM2722 - High Speed Synchronous/Asynchronous MOSFET Driver
The general description of the LM2722, part of the LM2726 family, is intended to be used with multiphase controllers. This part differs from the LM2726 by changing the pin function of SYNC_EN from full chip startup to low-side MOSFET enable. With this, the SYNC_EN pin now provides control between synchronous and asynchronous operation. With this control can be an advantage in portable systems because asynchronous operation can be more efficient at extremely light loads. A bottom and top MOSFET push-pull structure of the LM2722 driver is performed simultaneously. It takes a logic level PWM input and divides it into two free signals with a typical dead time of between 20ns. The built-in cross-conduction protection circuit prevents the top and bottom FETs from being turned on at the same time. The cross-conduction protection circuit detects the output of one driver so that it will not turn on one driver until the output of the other driver is low. With a bias voltage of 5V, the peak sourcing and sinking current of each LM2722 driver is typically 3A. Available in an SO-8 package, each driver is capable of handling an average current of 50mA. Input UVLO (Low Voltage Lockout Output) driver output forces are low to ensure proper power-up and power-down operation. The gate driver bias voltage required for the high-side MOSFET is obtained through an external bootstrap. Minimum pulse width as low as 55ns.
