DESCRIPTION The AT73C202 is a low-cost, ultra-low power, power and battery management IC designed to interface directly with state-of-the-art cellular phones, for example, with 2.5G GSM phones. It includes all the necessary power supplies for full compatibility with the group's recent mobile phone SoCs, including RF, analog and digital (DSP, microcontroller, memory) sections. The AT73C202 integrates a step-down DC-DC converter that provides 300mA of internal switching and two levels of baseband core voltage programming (1.8V and 2.5V). A low-power mode is applied to minimize standby current consumption during "quiet" propagation periods. Additionally, the AT73C202 includes a low-cost battery charger for Li-Ion or Li-polymer batteries with a simple external PNP transistor. Hardware control of battery operating conditions remains within safe limits during startup (when the phone is connected or the charger is plugged in). Battery pre-charging is also integrated and self-operating with the AT73C202. The software transfers to the baseband when the fast charge is completed and the charging process ends. The AT73C202 integrates a dedicated supply of 7 low-dropout linear regulators for RF (2 times), analog, memory, etc. It also includes a battery backup and a charger for ultra-low power baseband dedicated regulators for the real-time clock (RTC) supply in sleep mode. The hard-boot mechanism (power management controller state machine) ensures safe phone operation during wake-up and shutdown procedures in a variety of real-life mobile phone operating conditions (eg charger plug-in, plug-in, battery plug-in, plug-out , low or dead battery, etc.). The AT73C202 is packaged into a 49-ball (7x7 matrix), 0.65mm pitch 5mm x 5mm outline FBGA package.
