The ISL6160 is uniquely designed to address the requirements of the InfiniBand (IB) industry initiative by providing both VB (bulk) independent power control (+12 V) and VA (auxiliary) (+5 V) power rails on a single port. The device can implement applications in both Societe Generale Class I (non-isolated) and Class II (isolated) power topologies. The ISL6160, along with an N-channel power MOSFET and a minimum number of passive components provide a soft voltage ramp start module for both VB and VA. It also provides accurate and consistent current for a period of time before the regulated output latches off in the presence of overcurrent (OC) conditions. In addition, the ISL6160 provides an enable signal for the DC-DC converter on the module either when the module is plugged into the slave chassis or upon a wake-up event request.
