L4992-Three output power controller
Computers that communicate with laptops and sub-notebooks with pen tops and portable devices
describe
The L4992 is a complex dual PWM buck controller and power monitor for use in notebook computers and/or battery powered devices. The device produces regulated power supplies of +3.3 V, +5.1 V and 12V for portable use and PCMCIA applications. The internal architecture allows operation with a minimum number of external components. A very high switching frequency (200/300 kHz or externally synchronizable) optimizes its physical size. Synchronous rectification and pulse skipping in buck mode optimize overall section efficiency over a wide load current range (96% efficiency @ 1A/5.1V and 93% efficiency @ 0.05A/5.1V. Two high-performance PWM controllers + The 3.3 V and +5.1 V lines monitor overvoltage, undervoltage and overcurrent conditions. In the event of a fault, a power good signal detection is generated and specific shutdown procedures occur to prevent physical damage and data corruption. The disable function allows the output to manage the power section separately , optimizes static IC consumption during standby conditions.
