ISL6524CBZA-VRM8.5 PWM and Trilinear Power System Controller

The ISL6524 provides power control and protection for quad output voltages in high performance microprocessors and computer applications. The IC integrates a PWM controller and trilinear controller, as well as a 28-pin SOIC monitoring and protection function package. The PWM controller regulates the microprocessor core voltage with a synchronous rectification buck converter. A linear controller supplies the computer system's AGTL+ bus power to 1.2V. Two other linear regulator power supplies set the core voltage and/or cache memory circuits for the 1.5V AGP bus chip and a 1.8V supply. The ISL6524 includes an Intel VRM8.5 compatible, TTL electrical 5-input digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that adjusts the microprocessor core to position the PWM output voltage from 1.050V to 1.825V in 25mV steps. Precision reference and voltage mode controls provide ±1% static regulation. Linear regulators use external N-channel MOSFETs or bipolar NPN pass transistors to provide fixed output voltages of 1.2V ± 3% (VOUT2), 1.5V ± 3% (difference) and 1.8V ± 3% (VOUT4) . Monitor all ISL6524 output voltages. A delayedrising VTT's (VOUT2 output) power good signal sends the core PWM ramping action before starting. Another system power good signal is issued when the core is at ±10% of the DAC setting and all other outputs are above the undervoltage level. Additional built-in overvoltage protection The core output features a low MOSFET to prevent the output voltage from going above the 115% setting of the DAC. The PWM controller's overcurrent protection function monitors the output current through the voltage drop across the RDS(ON) of the MOSFET, eliminating the need for a current sense resistor.
