MAX1512-EEPROM Programmable TFT VCOM Calibration
The MAX1512 is a programmable VCOM adjustment solution for thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal displays (LCDs). The MAX1512 simplifies the labor-intensive manual VCOM adjustment process as an alternative to mechanical potentiometers, greatly reducing labor costs, improving reliability, and enabling automation. Attaching the MAX1512 to an external resistor voltagedivider sinks programmable current to set the VCOM level. An internal 7-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) controls the sink current. The DAC is ratiometric relative to AVDD and guaranteed to be monotonic under all operating conditions. This Wycombe calibrator IC includes an EEPROM to store the desired VCOM level. The EEPROM can be programmed repeatedly, giving TFT LCD manufacturers the flexibility to calibrate the manufacturing process requirements of the display panel multiple times. The integrated circuit features a single-wire interface between the LCD panel and the programming circuit. Both programming interfaces on a single root provide power and DAC adjustments to minimize changes to command panel connectors and production equipment. The MAX1512 is available in an 8-pin 3 × 3mm TDFN package. A complete evaluation kit greatly simplifies evaluation and production development.
