ADM1051-Precision Dual Regulator Controller

OVERVIEW The ADM1051/ADM1051A are dual, precision, voltage regulator railroad generation and power active bus controllers intended for termination on PC motherboards. They contain a precision 1.2 V bandgap reference and a two-channel control amplifier to drive external power devices. Each channel has a shutdown input to shut down the amplifier output and hiccup mode external power supply device protection circuitry. The shutdown 1.5 V channel input can also be used with a signal on the TYPEDET PC motherboard to select the output voltage. The ADM1051/ADM1051A operates from a 12 V supply, which gives the amplifier enough headroom to drive an external N-channel MOSFET, as source follower operates, through a range of external devices. The advantage of this is that N-channel devices are cheaper in performance than comparable P-channel devices, and circuits are easier to use than a P-channel device stabilized in a common source configuration.
