HIP6016 - Advanced Dual PWM and Linear Power Control

DESCRIPTION Advanced Dual PWM and Linear Power Control The HIP6016 provides power control and protection for three output voltages in high performance microprocessors and computer applications. The IC integrates a PWM controller, linear regulator and linear controller into a single package of monitoring and protection functions. The PWM controller regulates the microprocessor core voltage with a synchronous step-down reThanctified converter. The linear controller regulates the power of the NGTL bus and the linear regulator provides the power for the clock drive circuit. The HIP6016 includes an Intel compatible TTL 5 input digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that adjusts the PWM core output voltage from 2.1VDC to 3.5VDC in 0.1V increments from 1.3VDC to 2.05VDC in 0.05V steps. Precision reference and voltage mode control provide ±1% static regulation. The linear regulator uses an internal transfer device to provide a fixed 2.5V ±2.5%. The linear controller drives an external N-channel MOSFET, providing a fixed 1.5V ±2.5%. The HIP6016 monitors all output voltages. A single power good signal is issued when the core is at ±10% of the DAC setting and other levels are above the undervoltage level. Additional built-in overvoltage protection The core output features a low MOSFET to prevent the output voltage from going above the 115% setting of the DAC. The PWM output current monitoring function for overcurrent uses the voltage drop resistance RDS(ON) of the upper MOSFET, eliminating the need for a current sense resistor.
