FAN5230 - System Electronic Regulator Mobile PC
Description Description The FAN5230 is a high-efficiency, high-accuracy multi-output for use in laptops and other voltage regulator-like battery-powered applications. It integrates three pulse width modulated (PWM) switching regulators, two linear regulator controllers and converts the 5.4V to 24V computer voltage into the battery used by the power supply circuits surrounding the microprocessors of these systems. The two main PWM controllers in the FAN5230 use synchronous rectification to provide 3.3V and 5V each over 5A. They are turned out of phase to reduce input ripple current. Utilizing input and output voltages in current mode control feedback allows fast and stable in-loop response to a wide range of input and output changes. PWM control provides greater than 95% efficiency over a wide range of input and output variation during normal operation and hysteresis at light load control. The third PWM controller produces 120mA at 12V. Proprietary technology is to accurately sense the RDS(ON) of the external MOSFET currently used using [±1%] of the output, eliminating the need for an external current sense resistor to save board space and reduce BOM cost. Two integrated linear regulators AlwaysOn provide standby lamp (50mA current) loading at 3.3V and 5V power supply. Additional FAN5230 features include overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent monitors and thermal shutdown protection. When a power good signal is issued, the soft start is complete and all outputs are at ±10% of their settings.
