IRU3033 - 8-pin PWM switcher and linear controller IC
Description The IRU3033 IC combines a switching controller and a linear regulator controller all in a compact 8-pin surface package, providing a total solution for dual power processor applications such as Intel P55Cä, AMD K6ä, and Cyrix 6X86Lä and M2ä processor. Typically in these applications dual supply regulators convert the 5V to 3.3V I/O supply and jumper programmable 1.25V to 3.5V supply for the core supply. The IRU3033 part of the linear regulator controller is the flexibility of a programmable controller, allowing the purpose of the I/O regulator, with a minimum current drive capability of 50mA, to provide sufficient current for external pass transistors. The IC uses the 12V power supply controller generated by the internal regulator and the 12V power supply to drive the power MOSFETs, allowing low cost N-channel MOSFET switches to be used. The IC also includes a fast error-comparison transient response, an accurate reference voltage to set the output voltage, and minimal component count as a direct drive MOSFET.
