DESCRIPTION The IPM6220 provides a highly integrated power control and five output voltage protection solutions required for high performance notebook computer applications. The IC integrates three fixed frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) controllers and two edge monitoring and linear regulator protection circuits into a 24-pin SSOP package. Two PWM controllers that regulate the system's main 5V and 3.3V voltages implement synchronousrectified buck converters. Synchronous rectification and hysteresis at light loads contribute to high-efficiency operation over a wide range of input voltage and load variations. Efficiency is further enhanced by using a lower RDS(ON) of the MOSFET as the current sensing element. Input voltage feed-forward ramp modulation, current mode control, and internal feedback compensation provide fast, stable handling of load transients encountered in input voltage chipsets in advanced portable computers. The third PWM controller is a boost converter that regulates the nominal 12V output voltage with an optional resistor. Two internal linear regulators provide the +5 V always +3.3 volt always low current required by the notebook computer to output the system controller.
