TPS2383 - Octal Power Supply Device Power Manager...
The TPS2383 family of products are Power Sourcing Equipment Power Managers (PSEPMs), which are compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE). A PSEPM port can discover, classify and provide the ability to power powered devices (PDs) powered by twisted pair cables. Fully programmable by the user of the TPS2383. This allows detection and devices that are fully compliant with powered 802.3 as well as custom detection for legacy devices. The TPS2383 PSEPM can individually manage up to eight Power over Ethernet ports. For all operations the TPS2383 controls read and write operations via a standard (slave) I2C serial interface through registers. The TPS2383 has dual SDA lines to enable simple application of optocoupler circuits to maintain ground based isolation of the Ethernet port when the controller is used. Each TPS2383 has five select pins that allow us to handle up to 32 devices on the I2C bus and allow individual control and monitoring of the 256 Ethernet ports from a single master I2C controller. The per-port write registers enable discovery, classification and electrical status of operational processes, while the read registers contain information on enabling state processes, faults, classification values, operating currents and voltages for real-time ports. Per-port status LED drivers are provided that can be manually controlled via serial I/O. The TPS2383 is available in a full-featured 64-pin LQFP package. External N-channel MOSFET switch port power supply. High voltage (HV) gate drivers ensure full enhancement of these FETs, reducing power dissipation and making the FETs less expensive to use. The TPS2383 generates high-voltage gate supplies from 48-V port power, simplifying system power design. An external 3.3-V digital power supply is also used. This power supply can be active when the 48 V supply is not present, allowing the user to pass through the serial I/O section in this case. A 5 V analog supply is used for the LED and power port internal analog functions. Due to the very low quiescent current, both 3.3 V and 5 V supplies can be generated from the +48-V power bus with minimal external components. Internal power-on-reset (POR) circuitry with phase or external input pins power-on resets all register positions to a known safe state.
