HIP6200 - Transient Voltage Regulator

Intersil's decaps help stabilize power systems during severe voltage transients. It achieves this by supplying current when the voltage is lower than 1% or sinking current when the voltage is higher than 1.5% of the average load voltage. The fast transient response of the decap can compensate for the slow response time of many switching DC-DC converters. Although the HIP6200 serves as an easy replacement for any dynamic load with larger output capacitors, it is especially helpful in stabilizing portable CPU core voltages in computer applications where scale and efficiency are the primary concerns. This beheading enables the power supply to be designed without increasing the size or reducing the conversion efficiency of more powerful microprocessor converters. This decapitation behavior is independent of the PWM control circuit. This simplifies the layout of the converter because the decap and load may be located separately in the DC-DC converter. The decap should be placed near the load for best performance. ...
